Due to the uncertainty in regards to timelines around the Covid-19 pandemic and the measures issued by government and health agencies to combat its spread, the Board of Directors of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation feel it is in the best interest of our participants and our community to cancel this year’s Gran Fondo Lake Huron event.
Planning to host a gathering of over 1,000 people in a time when public gatherings may still be banned for months to come would contradict the values of the Foundation, in which we work to support the health of our community, residents and visitors.
Your Options
We recognize that all of the people who have registered or were waiting to register for our 3rd Annual ride will be just as disappointed as we are at the Hospital Foundation. Although it is hardly a consolation for an amazing day of riding, beautiful scenery, community spirit, food, fun and most importantly fundraising for our local hospital, we would like to offer the following three options in regards to your registration fee:
- Defer your entry to 2021 at no cost.
Please note that If you were registered as part of a sponsorship promotion code, your registration has been graciously donated to the Foundation. We thank your for your support and hope you consider registering again next year. - Refund your entry minus processing fees
- Donate your registration fee to support the Hospital Foundation. All donations will receive a tax receipt.

Please know that when you participate in or donate to events that support the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation we are able to turn your gift of support into something so valuable for every person who lives, works in and visits our community.
Last year some of the donations we received went to replace the aging anesthesia machines at our hospitals. Little did we know that these machines could be called into action as ventilators, significantly enhancing our capacity to save lives during the Covid 19 pandemic.
These new operating room ventilators share many of the same design and engineering advantages of standard ICU ventilators. This means if we experience a surge of sick patients we now have 10 more ventilators to manage critically ill patients than we anticipated.
We hope that you will consider donating your registration fee to help ensure that we can continue to fund top quality healthcare and equipment needs to care for you, your family, friends, neighbours and co-workers. Tax receipts will be issued for any registration fees donated.
