Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation Announces SNC-Lavalin as a Platinum Sponsor of the 30k Gran Fondo Distance

Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is pleased to welcome SNC-Lavalin as the Platinum Level title sponsor of the 30k distance for the Gran Fondo Lake Huron.

“SNC-Lavalin’s business is all about providing great solutions to customers, so it is only natural that we support the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation in providing great solutions like priority equipment to support health care professionals who serve this community,” said Sandy Taylor, President, Nuclear at SNC-Lavalin. “With cycling enthusiasts on staff, the inaugural Gran Fondo Lake Huron is of genuine interest. We can’t be any happier knowing the route will pass our new Port Elgin office as we cheer everyone on.”

Founded in 1911, SNC-Lavalin is a global fully integrated professional services and project management company and a major player in the ownership of infrastructure. From offices around the world, SNC-Lavalin’s employees are proud to build what matters. Our teams provide comprehensive end-to-end project solutions – including capital investment, consulting, design, engineering, construction, sustaining capital and operations and maintenance – to clients in oil and gas, mining and metallurgy, infrastructure and power. On July 3, 2017, SNC-Lavalin acquired Atkins, one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies. www.snclavalin.com. SNC-Lavalin is the steward of the CANDU technology that Bruce Power operates to provide 30% of Ontario’s electricity.

“The rides are all named after sponsors,” exclaimed an excited Executive Director for the Hospital Foundation.  Sally Kidson stated that having SNC-Lavalin recognize the value in sponsoring the 30k distance is extremely important.  “When building a new event, every single step along the way matters” and having sponsors for all four distances builds credibility for the event.  We expect that the SNC-Lavalin 30k will be extremely popular with recreational cyclists.  The ride goes right past their Port Elgin office before heading out to the country roads.

The 2018 Gran Fondo Lake Huron is a new fundraising initiative for the Foundation and the goal is to raise $150,000 that day.  Jim Barbour, Foundation Chair commented that the participation of SNC-Lavalin is very special.  “We’re looking forward to watching their team in the event.”

Why Ride?

This year, funds raised through Gran Fondo Lake Huron will strengthen healthcare in our region by enhancing regional stroke care and supporting essential equipment upgrades at Brightshores Southampton Hospital. Every dollar raised helps ensure our healthcare teams have the tools they need to provide high-quality, lifesaving care to our community and visitors.

When a stroke occurs, every second counts. Access to advanced imaging technology and rapid intervention tools can mean the difference between recovery and lifelong disability. Saugeen Shores residents rely on our designated stroke center in Owen Sound for urgent stroke care. Funds raised will help equip the center with essential upgrades to improve diagnosis and treatment, ensuring faster, more effective care for patients throughout our region.

Funds raised will also help upgrade vital equipment at Brightshores Southampton Hospital, ensuring our healthcare teams can provide exceptional care close to home. This year’s funding will replace essential tools like crash carts, keeping staff prepared for urgent situations. Investing in modern equipment enhances patient care, improves efficiency, and supports our hospital in meeting the community’s growing healthcare needs.

Your participation in Gran Fondo Lake Huron directly strengthens local healthcare. Whether you ride, volunteer, or donate, you are helping provide the vital resources that keep our hospital at its best, ensuring lifesaving care for our community today and for generations to come.
