Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation Welcomes the Air Canada Foundation as a Silver Level Sponsor

Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is pleased to welcome the Air Canada Foundation as a Silver Sponsor for the Gran Fondo Lake Huron.   The Air Canada Foundation has donated two tickets to anywhere that Air Canada flies in North America, which includes the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii.

Air Canada has been committed to the community since its inception over 80 years ago. The launch of the Air Canada Foundation in 2012 marks a new chapter in Air Canada’s dedication to the health and wellness of children and youth. Its mission is to help connect sick children to the medical care they need, alleviate child poverty, and make the wishes of ill kids come true. They work toward this mission by supporting pediatric hospitals, providing assistance to charitable organizations, and raising funds.

Each year the Southampton and Owen Sound hospitals treat over 10,000 children in their ER departments.  This ties in perfectly with the mission of the Air Canada Foundation.  In fact, the Gran Fondo Lake Huron will be officially started by Kyleigh, a little girl whose life was saved when she was just four months old at the Southampton hospital.  The 2018 Gran Fondo Lake Huron is a new fundraising initiative for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.  The Air Canada tickets are going to be a great incentive to encourage participants to fundraise.  Sally Kidson, Executive Director of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation states: “The airline tickets will be awarded by ballot.  Each person who raises $1,000 will receive a ballot to put into the Air Canada Foundation box.  If they raise $2,000, then they will receive 2 ballots, etc.  It’s going to be super exciting when we do the draw during the After Ride Picnic on August 19th!”

Air Canada Captain Bruce Durrer, who is also a volunteer with the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, is pleased to present the airline ticket voucher to Sally Kidson to be kept in a safe place until the winner is announced on August 19th.

Why Ride?

This year, funds raised through Gran Fondo Lake Huron will strengthen healthcare in our region by enhancing regional stroke care and supporting essential equipment upgrades at Brightshores Southampton Hospital. Every dollar raised helps ensure our healthcare teams have the tools they need to provide high-quality, lifesaving care to our community and visitors.

When a stroke occurs, every second counts. Access to advanced imaging technology and rapid intervention tools can mean the difference between recovery and lifelong disability. Saugeen Shores residents rely on our designated stroke center in Owen Sound for urgent stroke care. Funds raised will help equip the center with essential upgrades to improve diagnosis and treatment, ensuring faster, more effective care for patients throughout our region.

Funds raised will also help upgrade vital equipment at Brightshores Southampton Hospital, ensuring our healthcare teams can provide exceptional care close to home. This year’s funding will replace essential tools like crash carts, keeping staff prepared for urgent situations. Investing in modern equipment enhances patient care, improves efficiency, and supports our hospital in meeting the community’s growing healthcare needs.

Your participation in Gran Fondo Lake Huron directly strengthens local healthcare. Whether you ride, volunteer, or donate, you are helping provide the vital resources that keep our hospital at its best, ensuring lifesaving care for our community today and for generations to come.
