Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation welcomes Shawcor as a Gold Level Sponsor

Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that Shawcor is joining the Gran Fondo Lake Huron Team as a Gold Level Sponsor.

Based in Toronto, Ontario, Shawcor Ltd is a ‘Made in Canada’ success story.  Founded in 1932, Shawcor has grown from a small Canadian pipeline coating company to a global energy services leader through engineering innovation and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Shawcor’s five business units offer world-class engineering solutions for corrosion protection, non-destructive evaluation, and instrumentation and control applications.

For thirty years, Shawcor has been supplying Shawflex nuclear grade electrical cables to support operations at Ontario’s Nuclear Power Generating Stations. In 2018, as a commitment to provide world class service to the Bruce Power community, Shawcor has opened a sales office in downtown Kincardine with plans to grow this presence over the coming year. As a new member of the Bruce community, they are very excited to participate in this special event.

The 2018 Gran Fondo Lake Huron is a new fundraising initiative for the Foundation.  Executive Director Sally Kidson says, “Costs of medical equipment continue to rise and having state of the art equipment is key to prompt diagnoses and excellent care.  We hope to raise $150,000 with the Gran Fondo Lake Huron for this purpose.  But it is a lot more than a fundraiser for the Foundation.  This event is for our entire community and beyond!”

Jim Barbour, Foundation Chair commented that “the Board of Directors particularly liked the idea of this event because it promotes wellness with raising funds for health care.  The funds raised from this event will help purchase a new MRI for our regional hospital in Owen Sound.  Patients from across Grey and Bruce Counties use this service.  As well, some funds will be allocated to purchase equipment for the Southampton Hospital.”

Why Ride?

This year, funds raised through Gran Fondo Lake Huron will strengthen healthcare in our region by enhancing regional stroke care and supporting essential equipment upgrades at Brightshores Southampton Hospital. Every dollar raised helps ensure our healthcare teams have the tools they need to provide high-quality, lifesaving care to our community and visitors.

When a stroke occurs, every second counts. Access to advanced imaging technology and rapid intervention tools can mean the difference between recovery and lifelong disability. Saugeen Shores residents rely on our designated stroke center in Owen Sound for urgent stroke care. Funds raised will help equip the center with essential upgrades to improve diagnosis and treatment, ensuring faster, more effective care for patients throughout our region.

Funds raised will also help upgrade vital equipment at Brightshores Southampton Hospital, ensuring our healthcare teams can provide exceptional care close to home. This year’s funding will replace essential tools like crash carts, keeping staff prepared for urgent situations. Investing in modern equipment enhances patient care, improves efficiency, and supports our hospital in meeting the community’s growing healthcare needs.

Your participation in Gran Fondo Lake Huron directly strengthens local healthcare. Whether you ride, volunteer, or donate, you are helping provide the vital resources that keep our hospital at its best, ensuring lifesaving care for our community today and for generations to come.
