Please Consider Donating
Please know that when you participate in or donate to events that support the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation we are able to turn your gift of support into something so valuable for every person who lives, works in and visits our community.

Last year some of the donations we received went to replace the aging anesthesia machines  at our hospitals. Little did we know that these machines could be called into action as ventilators, significantly enhancing our capacity to save lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

These new operating room ventilators share many of the same design and engineering advantages of standard ICU ventilators. This means if we experience a surge of sick patients we now have 10 more ventilators to manage critically ill patients than we anticipated.

We hope that you will consider donating your registration fee to help ensure that we can continue to fund top quality healthcare and equipment needs to care for you, your family, friends, neighbours and co-workers. Tax receipts will be issued for any registration fees donated.

2020 Event Cancelled

Due to the uncertainty in regards to timelines around the Covid-19 pandemic and the measures issued by government and health agencies to combat its spread, the Board of Directors of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation feel it is in the best interest of our participants and our community to cancel this year’s Gran Fondo Lake Huron event.
Planning to host a gathering of over 1,000 people in a time when public gatherings may still be banned for months to come would contradict the values of the Foundation, in which we work to support the health of our community, residents and visitors.
Your Options
We recognize that all of the people who have registered or were waiting to register for our 3rd Annual ride will be just as disappointed as we are at the Hospital Foundation. Although it is hardly a consolation for an amazing day of riding, beautiful scenery, community spirit, food, fun and most importantly fundraising for our local hospital, we would like to offer the following three options in regards to your registration fee:
  1. Defer your entry to 2021 at no cost.
Please note that If you were registered as part of a sponsorship promotion code, your registration has been graciously donated to the Foundation. We thank your for your support and hope you consider registering again next year.
  2. Refund your entry minus processing fees
  3. Donate your registration fee to support the Hospital Foundation. All donations will receive a tax receipt.

COVID-19 Update

Physicians, nurses, technicians and support staff within hospitals and healthcare facilities are working hard in this time of uncertainty to prepare and put precautions into place to keep you and your loved ones at reduced risk should you have to visit their facility.

As you continue to stay up to date on the latest news, information, protocols and precautions please remember to take time for self-care and caring for others. Look for the positives over the coming weeks; staying home or limiting your outings can mean spending more time with family, getting to those projects around the house you’ve been meaning to finish. Pull out that book you have been saving for a rainy day or have a laugh over some old photo albums.

Most importantly, remain active! Enjoy the outdoors, go for a hike or get on your bike and get some fresh air. Over the next few weeks we have no doubt you will continue to look out for and help one another.

While it is still too early to know how/if our event will be impacted, we will continue to monitor the situation and are expecting to be able to provide an update on the status of the Gran Fondo Lake Huron by no later than July 3rd.

All participants should raise a minimum of $100 for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Every single fundraising dollar from this event goes towards the purchase of medical equipment! All costs to put on the ride are covered through sponsorship and registration fees. Please help us continue to achieve our goal!

Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation announces The Society of United Professionals as a returning Platinum Sponsor

Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is very excited to announce that the Society of United Professionals is returning to  the Gran Fondo Lake Huron, presented by Bruce Power as a title sponsor of the 110k Distance!

The Society of United Professionals Local 160 is proud to sponsor this year’s “Gran Fondo Lake Huron”.  This event covers a range of things that we are interested in promoting locally including health, exercise, sport and community building with proceeds going towards the Southampton Hospital.  Our congratulations go out to the organizers of this great event!

Tracy Murray, the Foundation Executive Director continues to be amazed and grateful for the community’s support  in becoming sponsors.  “We are so appreciative of the Society of United Professionals returning platinum sponsorship. Without crucial sponsorship support we would not be able to host events like this, that not only benefit the hospital through the fundraising efforts of the participants but benefit our community as well by attracting tourists and providing a fun experience for the people who live and visit here. It is always great to have organizations like the Society of United Professionals involved with the Foundation and the community.”

The Gran Fondo Lake Huron, presented by Bruce Power is happy to announce that Shawcor Ltd. has returned again this year as a Gold Sponsor

Shawcor was a Gold sponsor for last year’s inaugural fundraising event in August. Tracy Murray, Executive Director of the Hospital Foundation says “it’s no surprise that Shawcor has returned this year as a Gold sponsor. They were so enthusiastic to participate in last year’s event, both in a sponsorship capacity and to actually ride as a team in the event. We are just as excited as they are that they are back again this year!”

Based in Toronto, Ontario, Shawcor Ltd is a ‘Made in Canada’ success story. Founded in 1932, Shawcor has grown from a small Canadian pipeline coating company to a global energy services leader through engineering innovation and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Shawcor’s five business units offer world-class engineering solutions for corrosion protection, non-destructive evaluation, and instrumentation and control applications.

For thirty years, Shawcor has been supplying Shawflex nuclear grade electrical cables to support operations at all of Ontario’s Nuclear Power Generating Stations.

Last year, Shawcor participated in the Gran Fondo Lake Huron as both a Gold sponsor and with a five person cycling team. Being part of this amazing event and seeing the community rally around this meaningful cause made it a fixture on Shawcor’s summer calendar. We are excited to be returning in 2019 and are looking forward to continuing our support for this great community event. Aaron Klejman, P.Eng

Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation welcomes Promation Nuclear as a Gold Sponsor for the Gran Fondo Lake Huron

Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that Promation Nuclear has joined the Gran Fondo Lake Huron team for the second year in a row!  As a Gold Sponsor, Promation receives 5 complementary registrations, signage at the event as well as at the start and finish for all courses, recognition on the website and social media marketing at the Gold level.

Originally founded in 1995, Promation—a leading designer and manufacturer of high-quality tooling, automation, and robotic systems—is a privately owned Canadian Corporation that embodies its commitment to embracing ethnic, gender, and cultural diversity within its business practices, and is proud to be an inclusive, socially responsible corporation.

The Nuclear division has been delivering custom engineered solutions to the nuclear industry for over a decade, and has been a reliable Tooling partner to Bruce Power since 2011.  As a natural evolution in this ongoing successful relationship, Promation is proud to have established a local presence since 2017 in the Grey-Bruce region by opening an additional office in downtown Port Elgin.

“As an engaged and socially responsible employer in the region, we participate in many regional events and fundraisers, from gala dinners and golf tournaments to Santa Claus parades, free swim and skate days, as well as skating competitions at the Plex.  So, when this opportunity first presented itself, it immediately caught my interest for a number of reasons—the clear tremendous community engagement and involvement, the important cause it was supporting, the opportunity for company team participation and morale development, the active lifestyle nature of the event resonated with our own company values, and the fact it was a very unique event.

As such, we acted quickly to commit our support…and because we thought it was such a great opportunity, we also invited many of our business friends and partners, who also shared our enthusiasm and quickly signed on!

I would say the Saugeen Shores Memorial Hospital Foundation’s inaugural 2018 Gran Fondo was a resounding success, and the SMHF team delivered amazing value in their support, promotion, and flawless execution of the event…so naturally, it’s easy to once again support the bigger and better 2019 SMHF Gran Fondo this year!!”

Darryl Spector – President, Promation Nuclear

Executive Director of the Foundation Tracy Murray States, “We are so fortunate to have businesses like Promation in Saugeen Shores who get excited and involved in community events like the Gran Fondo. Not only is Promation a proud sponsor of our event they also have a team of enthusiastic riders returning to take part in the Gran Fondo Lake Huron again this year.”
